In order to maintain buoyancy on a body of water, you would have to completely trust that the displacement of water caused by your body is no where close to the total volume of the water. In basic terms, you have to trust the water to support your body mass. The more you try to help yourself stay afloat, the more likely you are to:
1) Exhaust yourself and
2) begin to sink as a result of the disturbance you caused in an attempt to stay afloat.
The requirement of Faith is absolute and complete trust.
Just like you trust the water to keep you afloat- by some laws of physics, you’ve got to trust that God is able to keep you from falling. He will never leave nor forsake you. He holds all things in His hands and He created you for Himself. Now this is absolutely wonderful, that I am safe and secure in Him.
It speaks of a deeper level of fellowship (1 John gives an expository on this).
Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, To God our Savior, Who alone is wise, Be glory and majesty, Dominion and power, Both now and forever. Amen.
Jude 1:24-25 (NKJV)
Prayer: Father, please help me to trust You. Increase my capacity for faith in You.
