It seems that God is far away. Wickedness is on the rise. How can a loving God let so much evil happen? And of course, the precedented question: why do bad things happen to good people? Does God not see the pain? Does He not care at all? I remember a time when the disciples asked the same questions.

Master, do you care nothing if we perish?

Imagine the hurt, confusion and the fear they felt when the Master was sound asleep in the boat that was about to capsize on them. Perhaps if He wasn’t in the boat, it might be different. But even in that scenario, we see the Master walking to them by sea to deliver them. Jesus walked on water! So then, we cannot deny His power over the storm. Now isn’t that swell? He can just think away that storm & it’ll be gone. Why doesn’t He do that?

When you go through the waters, I will be with you.

In order to understand His actions (or inaction), we must try to understand His ways. We know that God is GOOD. We know that He loves us so infinitely much, it is unquantifiable (John 3:16). God is light, and there is absolutely no darkness in Him (1John 1:5). It means then that God is not responsible for the evil in the world- it goes against His nature.

So who is? The law of Cause and Effect goes without saying: nothing just happens.

The enemy would like us to point a finger at God and shake our fists at heaven. His mission statement is clear: to steal, kill and destroy. He works very hard to ensure that people are blinded to the beauty and the light of the gospel (2 Corinthians 4:4). And so in blindness, they revel in their wicked acts, growing worse with each day (Romans 1:28). If you already know the Christ, his aim is to keep you from knowing His true nature- the Excellency of His Grace and the magnitude of His mercies, His plans for you (Jeremiah 29:11), His unending love. If we fix our eyes on Jesus (Hebrews 12:2), we would view the world through His eyes (much is expounded on this in Rick Joyner’s book, The Call).

We would be unshakeable.

The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).

Consider the vastness of the grace and mercy available to us. LIFE! We can have this overflowing in our cups. We can be overtaken by His peace, drunk in the Joy of the Holy Ghost. We can get lost in the sweetness of His presence. We can drown in His unending depths. What a wonder!

He invites you on this journey. To dance like there’s no tomorrow, to overflow with laughter, to cling to Him as if He’s the only thing in the world (He is).

Come, let’s get drunk on this wine.
