And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the Lord had called the child. – 1Sam 3:8 (KJV)

“Could this be God?” is a sincere question that spans all culture, places and people.

In this info-driven world we live in today, there’s a frantic thirst for Truth, commonly known as The Spoken Word of God. It is a question that drives people into action or inaction; because ‘it could be God’. Many wait on God for His leading or His voice to know what their destiny holds. But when God speaks, they don’t recognize His Voice.

The error lies in our uncommon concept of God. We imagine that the Almighty’s voice spoken to us would be thunderous as in the Holy Book or at the very least a loud Baritone.

In the Bible verse, we took a look at Samuel, the man who became the Great Prophet of Israel, whose words didn’t fall to the ground. He was the link between God and the children of Israel, but even he didn’t get it right the first time.

One reason why men may never hear the voice of their Creator is because instead of the thundering voice they’d imagined, they would often hear the voice of ‘Eli’.

Our Father recognizes the strengths and weaknesses of His children. David didn’t need a sword and shield to kill the giant Goliath; he only needed what he was used to- the slingshot. God speaks to you via what you’re used to. He can speak through your parents/guardians, friends, music or your predecessor (as in the case of Samuel).

You may have been seeking after the voice of God and it seems as though God isn’t answering. I encourage you that if there’s a man to pray, there’s surely a God to answer. Open your heart as you seek him today, you just might hear the voice of ‘Eli’.
